The 23rd edition of the Clean UAE Campaign commenced on December 5 in Ajman, under the patronage of the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment. Organised by the Emirates Environmental Group (EEG) in partnership with Ajman’s Municipality and Planning Department, this initiative marks the start of a nationwide movement across all seven emirates, culminating on December 14. The campaign, aligned with the “Year of Sustainability,” is the largest community-driven environmental initiative in the UAE.
Community Action and Impact
In Ajman’s Al Tallah 1 area, 1,210 volunteers gathered, armed with eco-friendly tools, including biodegradable garbage bags and cotton gloves. They covered an impressive 5-square-kilometer area, collecting 1,750 kilograms of waste, of which 345 kilograms were recyclable materials such as paper, plastic, and scrap metal. These materials were carefully segregated for recycling, reflecting the campaign’s commitment to sustainability and waste management.
Leadership and Vision
Ms. Habiba Al Mar’ashi, Co-Founder and Chairperson of EEG, emphasized the campaign’s broader mission:
“Clean UAE is not just about cleaning; it’s a movement of awareness and collective responsibility. Environmental preservation is a shared duty, and through this campaign, we are inspiring positive change across all sectors of society.”
She highlighted the campaign’s alignment with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including:
- Goal 3: Good Health and Well-Being
- Goal 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities
- Goal 12: Responsible Consumption and Production
- Goal 13: Climate Action
- Goal 15: Life on Land
- Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals
